On Korčula, share platters of octopus salad drizzled in grassy olive oil, a perfect match for the chalky-dry local wine, Grk. Let a Dalmatian grandmother teach you the secrets to her silky prawns buzzara in a garlic-tomato sauce, soaking up the juices with hunks of bread. Then cleanse the palate with a bracing shot of travarica, a herb-infused grappa that packs a punch.

Traverse the epochs as you sail, from Vis' ancient Greek cemetery with its 4th century BC pottery shards to the Venetian arsenal that still stands sentry in Korčula. In Sibenik, crane your neck to study the 71 sculptural heads protruding from the UNESCO-listed St. James Cathedral, each a 15th-century portrait immortalised in stone by Dalmatian master Juraj Dalmatinac. Uncover the WWII lore of Vis, where Tito's Partisans hid in island caves and launched daring raids against the Nazis. In Tivat, Montenegro, the former Yugoslav naval base now brims with superyachts, a testament to the region's evolving fortunes.
Things To Do
Kayak into the Blue Cave of Vis, where a shaft of sunlight turns the grotto an electric blue. Join the parade of yachts and fishing skiffs in Sibenik as they glide down the Krka River and into the Adriatic. Dive for black pearls in the silty oyster farms off Ston, before spreading the ink-hued molluscs atop slabs of bread. On Korčula, weave through olive groves and vineyards to the village of Lumbarda, where Grk grapes have thrived for millennia.
